Itinerary
We start our adventure by touring the vibrant city of Accra. Our first destination will be the Independence Square, which is one of the iconic landmarks in Ghana. We will climb to the Independence Arc, where we will have an aerial view of Accra and take pictures. This landmark is used for national gatherings and holds significant value for our national identity.
We will then proceed to the newly refurbished National Museum, which is a cultural and heritage site where we will learn about the culture of the Ghanaian people. It houses medieval artifacts and culturally preserved items on display. We will pass through the oldest settlement of British Accra and take pictures with the oldest lighthouse in Ghana.
Our journey will continue to Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Mausoleum, where we will learn about one of the champions of Pan-Africanism and the first black president of Ghana. The park also holds his remains and serves as a resting place for him and his wife. There are numerous trees planted there by dignitaries who visited the facility.
Lastly, we will visit an art gallery where they use recyclable materials for paintings and art pieces.
We will check out of our hotel in Accra and embark on a 2-hour drive to Ada Foah, which promises a tranquil escape. Upon arrival, we'll settle into an all-inclusive resort. However, before reaching our resort, we will make a memorable stop at Shai Hills Conservation Park, where the wonders of nature await.
As we step into Shai Hills, we'll be greeted by the curious gazes of baboons and monkeys, adding an exciting element to our adventure. We'll then have the opportunity to witness the grace and beauty of wild antelopes, zebras, and even ostriches in their natural habitat. To test our strength and embrace the rugged beauty of the park, we'll engage in some invigorating hiking amidst the rocky hills.
Our adventure will continue as we reach Ada Foah, a place of serene beauty. Here, we'll immerse ourselves in the captivating world of wild birds amidst the mangroves, a unique and tranquil experience. After checking into our resort, we'll embark on a tour of the property, where we'll discover its hidden gems and unwind in the tranquil surroundings.
As the day turns to evening, we'll gather around a roaring bonfire, creating unforgettable memories under the starry sky. To complete our day of exploration, a special dinner awaits us, prepared with care to delight our senses and satisfy our appetite for adventure.
Get ready for an extraordinary journey filled with nature's wonders, relaxation, and delightful surprises at Ada Foah.
Our next adventure takes us to the enchanting Volta Region, where we'll immerse ourselves in the natural wonders of Ghana. Our first stop will be the awe-inspiring Wli Falls, nestled within the Agumatsa Forest Reserve. To reach this breathtaking destination, we'll cross the river and embark on a thrilling hike through the lush forest. The sight and sound of the cascading falls will leave us in awe, making this experience truly unforgettable.
Following the captivating visit to Wli Falls, our journey continues to the towering Mountain Afadzato, the highest mountain in Ghana. As we lace up our hiking boots, we'll ascend this majestic peak, surrounded by stunning panoramic views of the landscape. The adventure and the scenery from the top will be nothing short of mesmerizing.
Our next stop takes us to the Monkey Sanctuary, where we'll have a unique opportunity to interact with and feed the resident monkeys. In this community, the monkeys are considered sacred, and their protection from potential predators, including humans, is of utmost importance. This visit will provide insight into the cultural significance of these creatures in the local beliefs and traditions.
Prepare for a day filled with natural wonders, adventure, and cultural immersion as we explore the Volta Region's remarkable beauty and traditions.
We will depart from the magnificent Ada Foah, but before we head back to Accra, we will take a boat to the nearby island and the mangrove.
We will visit the Aburi Botanical Garden to learn about different species of plants and the use for certain plants for medicinal purposes.
Upon arrival at Cape Coast, we will first visit the Cape Coast Slave Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which played a very critical role in departing enslaved Africans to the New World. Here, we will have a guided tour and be taken through the male and female dungeons, the Door of No Return, cells, and more.
Our next stop will be Elmina Slave Castle, which was built by the Portuguese as the first European building in the then Gold Coast. It traded hands to the Danes, Fins, Dutch, and later the British seized it into their custodianship.
After Elmina Castle, we will tour the Elmina township and witness how local fishermen ply their trade.
Our last stop for the day will be the astounding Kakum National Park and Canopy Walk. Here, we will take you on an adventurous journey by walking across the 7-step footbridge on top of trees with a height of 27 meters.
After checking out of our hotel, we will be heading back to Accra and make a stop at Assin Manso Slave River. Here, we will visit the Donko Suo (Slave River), which was the last bathing place for the enslaved Africans who had been made to travel miles from the landlocked areas on foot.
The Donko Suo is a twin river with its confluence where the slaves took their last bath. The twin river is mixed, but you can differentiate between them based on the water color.
After traveling down the road to Ada, Volta, and Cape Coast, we are back in Accra, and today we will visit the Aburi Botanical Garden located along the Akwapim Mampong Mountain range. At this garden, we will learn about different species of plants and take beautiful pictures with lush greenery as our backdrop.
Later, after lunch, we will go for a batik workshop in Accra to learn how to dye cloth using the bud of trees as a natural dye. We will have the opportunity to create our own unique piece of cloth during this workshop.
We will set out for shopping at a local market, beginning with a visit to the Accra Art Center and then exploring Oxford Street. We'll conclude our day at the Accra Mall, where you can relax and reflect on our journey through Ghana.
