Overview

Descendants of slave traders will holistically perform an atonement ceremony on behave of their ancestors for their corrective involvement in the inhumane slave trade from descendant of the enslave Africans captured and sold into slavery.

Upon embarking on this mission participants will undertake a DNA testing exercise with reputable laboratory with offices in the USA and Ghana to trace your root and reveal your ethnic group. The pilgrimage expedition start with arrival to your ancestral homeland where you will meet and ushered into the community and you will be taught some cultural element of the community like greetings, dancing, dressing and cooking. You will meet some prominent members of the community like chiefs, elders and learn about family tree and history of your ancestor.

We will journey our way to Salaga a major slave market where slaves were sold around the 18th century, descendant of slave traders will hold a ceremony in your honor to request forgiveness for their participation in the shameful act of selling slave. The event will be climax with a feet washing ceremony hold by the local community as a sign of apology to the descendant of enslaved Africans.

This tour package is design for African Americans and descendant of enslaved Africans who were affected by the infamous slave traded which lasted for over 400 years.

Itinerary

Our cultural expert will meet and greet you at the airport and transfer you into your hotel where will be thrilled by vibrant sound of African drums and traditional dance. After settling into our rooms we will have a welcome dinner where you will be introduce to various Ghanaians cuisine and drinks alongside continental delicacies.

We will heed to the calls of mother Africa and start our journey of redemption on this day and our first stop is W.E.B Du Bois center the formal home of one of the pioneers of black liberation Du Bois. He moved to Ghana in the 60’s to help his friend Kwame Nkrumah educate Ghanaians and died after few years in the country. The home has since been transformed into a museum and a final resting place of the giant pan Africanist.
We will continue to the independence square a symbolic site commissioned in 1960 by Queen Elizabeth of England which signifies the liberation of Ghanaians from colonial rule. National museum is a treasure trove of Ghana where ancient antiquity of pre-colonial, colonial and modern Ghana is housed will be our next destination. Our journey of Accra will proceed to Kwame Nkrumah mausoleum which is the final resting place of one of African greatest sons, the museum housed his personal belongings and the park have a green vegetation of tree planted by dignitaries who has visited the park.
We will drive through the colonial city of Jamestown and take pictures of the oldest lighthouse, Ussher fort, Jamestown prison and the Afro-Brazilian house in the oldest suburb in Accra.

We will take an early scheduled flight (1hr) to Tamale after breakfast, upon arriving in Tamale will be pick up by our team and continue to Mole national park for wildlife expedition where giant elephant will be at glance. We will return to our hotel and have dinner with drumming and dancing.

We embark our atonement journey after breakfast to Salaga a town hour and half away from our hotel and we will have a scenic drive to our destination. We will meet the traditional leaders in Salaga one of the major trading spot of the slave trade and we will be tour around the formal slave trading site where slave trade started in the then Gold Coast.
We will visit families who ancestors were slave raiders and are still in possession of slave shackles and chains in their families home, the ceremony will be sealed with descendant of slave traders performing a feet washing ceremony as humility and plea for forgiveness. This ceremony is design by the community as a symbolic apology for their ancestors rule in the inhumane act of slave trade, we will proceed to the slave market site where captured African men and women were sold in an open market. Lay a wreath at the grave site remembering those who did not survive the slave trade.
We will participate in naming ceremony event where will be thrilled to drumming and dancing whilst obtaining our lost African identity by the local community.
After the ceremony we will drive back to our hotel in Tamale.

We will drive to Kumasi after breakfast and make a stop at Kintampo waterfalls and entreat ourselves to impeccable nature, our second stop will be Assin Bono slave market where captured men and women were sold in open market. We will continue to Kumasi and settle into our hotel.

Today we will explore the Ashanti kingdom and its prowess of ancient craftsmanship and resistance to colonial rule. Our first stop will be Manhyia palace museum to learn about century’s old kingdom of the Asante people, the museum house antiquity and literature of the powerful Asante people. We will continue to Komfo Anokye sword site which have a symbolic significance to the formation and unity of the Ashanti kingdom, it will intrigue you to know that the swoSrd has never been removed after the effort to take it out with heavy machines and the great boxer Mohammed Ali couldn’t remove it when he visited Ghana.
We will continue to explore the formal British colony and visit the Kumasi cultural center and King Prempeh museum and learn abouth rich culture of Ashanti and one of the great rulers of the kingdom. We will journey our way to the Kumasi central market and witness how people barter their trade. We will spend the rest of the day at the Kumasi city mall.

After breakfast we will take on a village tour and traverse the craftsmanship of the Asante’s using ancient techniques of weaving and carving.
We will visit the kente village of Bonwire to witness and experience how famous kente cloth is weaving and get the opportunity to try your hands of this fascinating art of weaving. Our next destination will be the Ntonso Adinkra village where the Adinkra symbols takes it root from, you will pick your own Adinkra symbols and you will be guided to make your own designs and experience pride of wearing your designed cloth.
Awhia wood carving village won’t be far from reach where we will witness art of making statues, masks, stools, dolls, furniture etc using ancient techniques. We will have an experience in a cocoa farm in Adanwomase village and see the raw bean which is used to make our favorite chocolate. We will visit a UNESCO heritage lake call Lake Bosumtwi and learn about the existence of the lake and take a boat ride on the this nature wonder.

We will travel to the colonial city of Cape Coast from Kumasi after your breakfast in a 4hr drive but we will make a stop at the Assin Manso slave river {Donko Nsuo}, enslaved Africans were made to take what was suppose be their last bath in the land of their ancestors before been journeyed on foot about 3hrs to the slave dungeons south of Assin Manso.
We will continue to Cape Coast and settle into our hotel , we will have a storyteller tells us the history and story about the Cape Coast people before their encounter with the Portuguese over dinner.

Today we explore the colonial capital of the then Gold Coast by visiting the Elmina castle the first slave post in Ghana which was built by the Portuguese in the 1482, it was first built as a trading post but it was later expanded into a slave dungeon.
Our next destination will be Cape Coast castle constructed by the Swidish Africa company for a trade in timber and gold but was later converted into slave dungeon when Atlantic slave trade begun, the castle traded hands with several European nations and it was largely used by the British until Ghana gained its independence in 1957.
We will challenge our adventurous spirit to it must when we take a trip to Kakun national park and canopy walk where we will endeavor to trek on 7 foot bridge on top of tree with the height of 350 meters above sea level. Whiles going through the 7 steps foot bridge you will be entreated to a lush greenly environment.

We will have an early morning drive to Accra, we will have lunch at Buka restaurant and then visit the Art center a cultural market in Accra for last minute shopping and you will be later transfer to the airport
